Robert M. Anderson, PLS

Bob is a graduate of the University of North Carolina and has been licensed as a Professional Land Surveyor since 1981. His survey career began in the 1970’s on Orcas Island at the survey firm, Krabbe & Starr. Bob surveyed on Orcas Island until 1987 when he accepted a position with a Seattle consulting firm specializing in government surveying and mapping projects throughout the Pacific Northwest. Bob has supervised large scale mapping projects in such diverse locations as Hells Canyon, the Aleutian Islands, Peru, Mt. McKinley, Seattle Marine Terminals, the North Cascades National Park, and lead the survey climb team that re-established the height of Mt. Rainier. Bob has conducted workshops, written, and presented numerous papers on the application of GPS for surveying and mapping. Two of Bob’s projects were awarded the Grand Award of Excellence for innovative use of GPS by the Washington Consulting Engineers Council.

In 1999, Bob received an appointment from the United Nations to be a technical advisor in Bhutan for the National Urban Surveying & Mapping Group. After 5 years mapping in the Himalayas, Bob returned to the San Juan Islands and assumed the position of Chief Surveyor for Starr Surveying. When Tom Starr, owner of the firm, announced his intent to retire, Bob purchased the firm and became the owner of Star Surveying in 2007.
